Paul Begala of CNN said of Len Downie "Aside from the president of the United States, he is probably the most powerful guy in Washington."
What is it like to make editorial decisions for one of the world's most important city newspapers in a time of national security threats, business and political scandals, economic recession and rebound, controversial wars, 24-hour news cycles, and the tabloidization of politics and the press? Does Washington even care about technology and Silicon Valley? Learn the answers as Washington Post executive editor Len Downie, Jr. visits the Churchill Club.
Downie joined The Post in 1964 as a summer intern and went on to become a well-known local investigative reporter, the Metropolitan section reporter and then editor where he supervised The Post's Watergate coverage (and no, he doesn't know the identity of Deep Throat), author, and now Executive Editor.
You'll get a behind-the-scenes look at The Post and how they make editorial decisions and hear some of stories-behind-the headlines of the past forty years. This is a rare opportunity for us in Silicon Valley to not only hear from Len but also ask candid questions on any topic.
When Len spoke to the Club two years ago, attendees said,
“Excellent session—great topic and speaker. The only flaw was that it seemed too short.”
“Fantastic event—much needed in the Valley.”
“Very engaging speaker; I only wished the talk was much longer than one hour.”
This is another event in the Churchill Club’s continuing Breakfast Series that will give you new levels of access to those that shape business, the tech industry and the world. These forums will always be limited to a smaller number of attendees in order to spur interaction between you and your fellow members, as well as between the audience and the speakers.
