Irrational Decisions and the Rational People Who Make Them (p.m.)

Every day we read another story or see smart, stable people in our own lives making bad decisions that lead to life-altering consequences. We’ve even done it ourselves and we think: Why did we do that? What were we thinking?

Why do perfectly rational people make incredibly irrational choices?

Why does the head of airline safety at KLM make a rookie-type slip in judgment that sparks a catastrophic chain reaction, resulting in the largest airline collision in history? Why do seasoned investors refuse to sell their stake in a stock even as it continues to plummet? Why do hiring managers pay attention to all the wrong cues during a job interview, resulting in lost time and resources in training and supporting an employee who will ultimately be fired?

Renowned organizational thinker Ori Brafman and his brother, psychologist Rom Brafman, say that anyone--under the right set of circumstances--is capable of irrational action. But irrational behavior is not random.

In conversation with Guy Kawasaki--one of the Club's most popular moderators--the authors of, Sway: The Irresistible Pull of Irrational Behavior will reveal proven strategies to counteract the forces that lead to bad decisions, including our tendency to go to great lengths to avoid perceived losses, our inability to reevaluate our initial diagnosis of a person or situation, and our tendency to take on characteristics that have been arbitrarily assigned to us.

Join us for this fascinating look into the hidden psychological influences that derail our decision-making. It may change the way you think about the way you think.
