Open Forum: California’s SB100: The Race to 100% Clean Energy

December 5, 2019

Thursday, December 5, 2019

California leads the nation with its ambitious programs to combat climate change, from ramping up renewable energy to driving the development of cleaner cars and its cap-and-trade program. SB100, a bill signed into law in Sept. 2018, mandates that California achieve 100% clean energy by the year 2045. This is yet another step on the path the state has been traveling for 15 years and in fact, is ahead of schedule in meeting its 2020 goals. How difficult will it be to meet the requirements of SB100 and actually get to 100%?  What are the major challenges to overcome; the most important opportunities? This major initiative provides fertile ground for a rich discussion about what it will truly take to meet California’s 2045 target. What is the technical feasibility? What about cost, time, social factors? This energetic conversation will cover these areas and more, with time to contribute ideas and questions of your own.
