The Bay Area’s economic vitality and ascendance as the global center of innovation owes much to the presence of institutions of higher education. Beyond their academic excellence, for example, Berkeley and Stanford occupy the top two spots in the United States in terms of the number of alumni who have founded venture-backed companies. During a rare joint appearance, Berkeley Chancellor Nicholas Dirks and Stanford President John Hennessy will offer their perspectives on a wide range of issues, including challenges and opportunities facing their campuses, higher education as a whole, and the symbiotic relationship between the region’s economy and two of the world’s leading universities.
