The New World of Work

September 26, 2017

Tuesday, September 26, 2017

A future where rapidly developing and converging technologies will fundamentally change how we live, work and play is unfolding every day. An ongoing series of Churchill Club conversations will help you be up-to-date on trends, opportunities, and possible future states.

Session 1 | The Next Organization: Culture, Technology, & Space

Even as technology automation enables previously unimaginable changes in how we work, we’ll always need to focus on building human organizations. This discussion focuses on key challenges and opportunities in the “people space.” How do we change the way we think about organizations to focus on the experiences of people? How can companies gain an advantage in attracting talent; what kind of spaces and tools will be needed; how can we think of creating organizations where people are engaged and excited about their jobs and work? Come hear from Inhi Cho Suh, general manager of Watson work and collaboration solutions at IBM; Steve Wilson, VP of product for cloud and IOT at Citrix; and Jacob Morgan, respected futurist and author of The Employee Experience Advantage (moderator), as they thoughtfully explore possible futures for the next organization and its workforce.

Session 2 | The Next Economy: Work, Jobs & Society

The technologies of the 21st century—self driving cars, on-demand services, AI, etc—are expected to have a huge impact on work and society, but that power must be used wisely. Many people blame technology for loss of current and anticipated future jobs—but history tells us that technology kills professions, not jobs. Instead of using technology to replace people, can we use it to augment them so they can do things that were previously impossible? How can we shape the next economy to broadly benefit society? Come hear from Tim O’Reilly, CEO of O’Reilly Media and Author of “WTF: What’s the Future and Why It’s Up to Us,” and Elizabeth Dwoskin, Silicon Valley Correspondent at The Washington Post, as they explore the upside and the potential downsides of the next economy.
